PROGRAMMES OF SINGLE CYL.UNIT

The following is a detailed programme of the work to be carried out on the single cylinder chassis unit.

No. TEST. Date. T.R.T.

16. Second endurance with water jet for cylinder distortion.
SHOP:- Remove block and top half for inspection of piston, rings, valves, big end and size of bore. The unit (block, head, valves, tappets, push rod etc.) should also be weighed.
Meanwhile, the unit is to be re-built as a standard Bentley.

17. P.C. on standard Bentley, with stand. timing. Use small carb. with 32 m/m.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Open exhaust and silenced. Note ignition advance.

18. Run motoring curve on this unit, silencer water on, petrol off. Repeat until consistent results are obtained.

19. Ignition - Detonation Curves:-

(a) set for ignition advance of curve 17 and note detn.

(b) Alter ignition to max. power setting.

(c) Alter ignition to give 6" detonation and note power and advance. This test should be done by advancing the ignition beyond the required amount, and then retard to the required value. These curves should be run together.

SHOP:- Remove standard unit, and re-build with H.P. No.2.Head (RS.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}314) using normal H.P. timing, and high lift rocker. This standard block, head and valve gear should now be weighed for comparison with High power.
