To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. CJ. EFC2/T18.11.25. (REVISED REPORT) X.8650. EAC. SILENT STARTER. This is now fitted to chassis 9-EX (with a 45° helix), which Mr. Hives is bringing to you to-day. The reference of our previous report on the functioning of this when fitted to 93-NK is EFC3/T7.11.24. The features which have been altered as a result of experience gained by a previous trial of this system on 93-NK, are as follows :- The gauges of the windings of the actuator box and teazer winding have been increased from 18 to 17 SWG. This has eliminated the possibility of the motor not turning in the first instance, i.e. there is now a greater teazer torque, and so far we have not observed any tendency to fail in this respect. It will be remembered that previously, as a temporary expedient, we overcame this with a bye-pass resistance, which was merely a makeshift to observe the functioning of the apparatus in other ways. There is now, of course, no such resistance. The strength of the hold-on coil on the relay switch has been increased, as it was not deemed sufficiently strong in all cases with the original winding. This appears to have eliminated any trouble from too weak a hold-on. Contd. | ||
