PETO & RADFORD. CONTINUATION 1. Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd. With regard to putting oil on the surface of the electrolyte, there is a special hydrocarbon oil for this purpose to prevent the acid spray contaminating the atmosphere and thus damaging metal fittings or other apparatus. The only objection to the use of this oil is that the black expander we put in our box negatives is gradually eliminated from the plates in service and is trapped by the oil and looks somewhat unsightly, but otherwise the efficiency of the cell is not impared in any way. The writer will bring a sufficient quantity of this oil with him next week and will have a look at the cells with you and we can decide then whether to use it or not. It might be that the glass spray arresters may be sufficient but we can settle this when we see the cells. Yours faithfully, PETO & RADFORD. G.R.N. Minchin. | ||
