To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} x312 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Smth.11/KW.10.7.36. Phantom III Clutch. We are pushing ahead with our tests with the Ph.III clutch, and the R.R. type of plate to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}164/5 continues to be the most promising. It has given a smooth take up in the two or three cars in which we have tried it; the fabrics are very much more securely fixed than in the present plate; and owing to its simpler construction it is easier to ensure consistency between one plate and another. We propose to run one of these plates in the next 10,000 miles test. Meanwhile we suggest that we should go easy on orders from Borg & Beck for future series as it is probable that we shall want to recommend this plate. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Smth.
