X4620 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rml/LG. 23rd. Feb. 1924. The Cambridge Scientific Instr: Co., Cambridge, England. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 22nd.inst. containing details of your chronograph. This appears to be exactly what we require, if the paper speed range is sufficiently wide. The only two points which appear to us to be a possible source of trouble - are :- (1) From experience of pens on instruments used for road tests, we have found they are apt to prove very unsatisfactory and awkward to handle. We should therefore like your opinion on whether the ink record of this instrument will be reliable and function without much attention. (2) Will the instrument record satisfactorily under the unavoidable vibrations which take place in a car; of course, it would be possible, to a certain extent, to isolate it from road shocks. We suppose you have some means of demonstrating that there is no time lag in the electro-magnetic actuation of the pens as this is rather a vital detail. We should like you to consider these questions, and let us have a quotation for the instrument if you consider the points we have mentioned will not prove serious difficulties. Yours faithfully, | ||
