Ho. X3700 from Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}7/T13.6.28. re F55185 Zenith Petrol Filters Further to the second and third paragraphs of our memo Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}/HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/T5.6.28, which matter the Zenith Carburetter Co. dealt with in their letter of the 9th inst. a copy of which you sent us under cover of your memo reference Roy{Sir Henry Royce}/JT10/HP11.6.28, please note that in view of the trouble we have experienced with cracked and chipped glasses, due to their being too tight in the housing, we have made an inspection of all the chassis in the Test Dept. which are fitted with Zenith Petrol Filters, and have found the filter glasses to be in the following condition - 4 were tight. 9 were tight in places i.e. when the glass was turned in the housing, it was tight in some places and free in others. 15 were passable. With a view to eliminating any possibility of this trouble happening on cars in customers hands, we are making a careful inspection of all chassis before they are despatched, and we are of the opinion that all filters passing through the Inspection Dept. should have this particular point carefully checked - will Sft{Mr Swift}/Mr Cox please arrange this. Also will Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} please write further to the Zenith Carburetter Co. re this matter, mentioning the above facts, and asking that they supply us with a number of correct size glasses, with a view to our putting them on chassis on which the glasses are too tight at present. We have had a further case of a cracked glass due to being tight in the housing, and this we are sending back via the Inspection Dept. in the usual way. [Stamp: RECEIVED] [Stamp: 12 JUN 1928] | ||
