Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} e.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} BY C E X 7230. EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}1/H5.6.30. Dict. 4.6.30. re. PHANTOM II. SILENCER OUTLET. We are receiving complaints of damage to the spring gaiters caused by the outlet from the exhaust. We agree that normally the outlet should clear the springs, but with a strongly sprung car running with no load, the outlet from the silencer certainly does tend to give this trouble. It is likely, therefore, that this trouble will be more noticeable in future with our stronger springing. We shall be glad if you will look into this matter and make recommendations for improvement in this respect. We suggest that the silencer outlet should be extended so as to project slightly beyond the end of the chassis. This scheme should also be helpful in overcoming fumes in the body to the cowling etc. as fixed on the back of the car. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} ROEK.
