1269 also Hppb To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.11/JH.23.9.38. WATER PUMP FOR 15,000 miles car 8.B.V. In memo. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.14/JH.31.8.38. we advised you that we required a water pump to SCD.861 for 8.B.V. car for France and also that it was necessary to carry out rig tests before fitting it to the car. The necessary details for the pump were in your hands by 5.9.38. and Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. arranged for the supply of the necessary Ferobestos N.W.1 pieces. We understand that the water pump spindle for this scheme SCD.861, which is nitro hardened was only despatched to the hardening shop last night (22.9.38) and will not be completed until at least the end of next week (1.10.38) so that from time of instruction to date of completion will be practically one month. We would like to know the reason for the incredible length of time of manufacture for this spindle, as in view of same we are somewhat concerned as to what the cost of same is likely to be in production. We would point out that it is essential that this scheme be run on 8.B.V. for its 15,000 miles test since 'C' series Wraith pump is held up pending the result of this test, as the present Wraith pump is not satisfactory.
