MARKET HARBOROUGH.

Dear Tom,

Thank you very much for the trouble you have taken over this Marine engine project of ours. Unfortunately, it does not seem to be a very practical proposition, and I am afraid it is no use going further with it.

I was up at Leyland's last week and they spoke well of your filter. There is a lot of business going at the moment on filters for test beds, the whole of which Vokes seem to have "collared" at present. Naturally, these filters are of full flow, but size seems to be a secondary condition provided the replacement is reasnably cheap. Their filters are not very cheap to replace.

We are putting up a large number of test beds at Glasgow and Swindall is going up there to take charge of them for the duration of the War. He is at present working on our test beds at Crewe, and it might be worth while your going over to see him so that you can consider whether you would like to offer an alternative to the Vokes. If you will let me know if and when you are likely to go I will contact him.

What progress are you making with the Merlin filter ? Are you getting anywhere with the War Office and reclaiming used oil ?

I expect to see Dick this week-end.

Yours sincerely,
