Re Piston Knocks - Pre-War Chassis. With reference to your Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/NRC{N. R. Chandler}1/D4.9.23, I cannot see any harm in using the pre-war type cast-iron pistons with the present type piston rings, so long as the pre-war clearances are given to the pistons and the post-war clearances given to the piston rings. At the same time, I feel that the question of whether these should be used when not standardised, is a point which BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} should decide. Surely it is not a fact that all pre-war cars suffer from the same trouble. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} | ||
