+346 R LES To DT. from Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} SECRET. Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/HP.24.6.35. c. Wop. B.llis. Hdy.{William Hardy} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} SpectreCodename for Phantom III - Front Suspension. Herewith is N. Sch.4520, arrangement of front spring cylinder with Autoloc shock damper. In order to do this in the most convenient manner we have reverted to the type of shock damper with the cylinders at opposite ends of the assembly, but with the whole of the valve and valve operating mechanism made detachable as a unit, and from the inside of the chassis so th the loads can be tested separately and the mechanism inspected. Also we have reduced the number of high pressure joints. The spring unit is also detachable as a unit from the outside of chassis. In addition to the Autoloc, we have made provision for the governor control of the shock damper valves as we understand this may still be needed. We have not shewn a mechanical hand control but the application by a simple modification will be sent if needed. We now propose to send a slight modification to the Autoloc control of the bump valve so as to bring it into play earlier in the rebound stroke, in case this feature should be found necessary. The point where the control comes in as shown is that asked for by Experimental Department. The springs shewn are 6" initial deflection. We shall send some of 7" and 10" deflection immediately.
