EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT.

Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /Ed. {J. L. Edwards} 4/JH.

21st. August, 1939.

Messrs. John Marston Ltd.,
Wolverhampton.

For the attention of Mr. Steadman.

Dear Sirs,

We are returning under separate cover the car heater we recently had back from you after repair. We find that the fan spindle assembly is very stiff, and put this down to corrosion on the spindle and swelling of the fibre bushes.

This is not the first occasion on which we have had to ease these spindles, and in view of the fact that the job is going on production, we are sure you will appreciate the necessity of a good job to start with.

We suggest therefore that you ream the bushes slightly oversize to ensure a free running spindle to start, and also to allow for any subsequent swelling of the bush which may occur.

We are looking into the question of additional drawings for the Ripplet and as soon as prints are available will let you have them.

As you know we are experimenting with pressure cooling and anticipate putting a special radiator of the fin and tube type in hand. We should be interested to hear whether you can make this type of matrix economically.

Yours faithfully,
FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
