Dear Mr. Fowler Clark,

My attention has been called to your letter of Jany 15th. in reply to a letter of January 12th. sent from our Works.

Of course you are quite correct in your remarks about the unfortunate paragraph that got into our letter.

The failure of any one cell has no direct effect upon the others, it only has an effect upon output if all the cells are on test, or in use.

The reason for this mistake in our letter is rather curious. Mr. Minchin who is on the Continent wrote this letter in the train and as he scribbled in pencil some of his letter was indistinct.

It was typed without being corrected at this office and one word was altered. In paragraph 3, For "into" read "through".

If one cell in a 12 volt battery is faulty and falls to zero the other cells on closed circuit will not only be discharged through it but will, after a time, begin to reverse the polarity of the plates in the dead cell.

This is what Mr. Minchin was referring to, but
