To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}: X1113 Cricklewood, Sept. 14th, 1936. 30 - HP Steerings. I have made enquiries at Lillie Hall with regard to changing the steerings. They have not as yet changed any there. Goodhall was down at Cricklewood last week, to change the ball races and show how to do the job. The first steering he tackled was apparently the same as we found in France. The car was not even and he could do nothing with it. i.e. slack in the centre position then tight either side. I don't know whether you are aware of it, but on Rothschild's Phantom III in France, the 2nd. and 3rd gear has been coming out of mesh. Lewis from the Test has been over and fitted a new gearbox, which was satisfactory when he left. The Paris Ph.III is in trouble with steering wobbles 25 M.P.H., also misfiring at speed. A London Trials car has been up to the Works for the same reason. Another Phantom III was held up this weekend with Petrol Pump trouble, would not deliver. Lewis has gone out to it so we shall get details later. I expected Ratcliffe this morning but so far he has not arrived. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/G.W.Hancock. | ||
