Contd. -2- EFC1/T14.1.28. The conclusions to be drawn from this series of tests is that in spite of the fact that we had previously determined that the removal of the distributor was no advantage without scrubbing action, it is now, with the scrubbing action, apparently a definite advantage in the running of the points for the distributor to be removed. Or alternatively that the quicker break cam would give much the same result with the distributor in place. The disadvantage of the quicker break cam is, as far as we can judge on the bench, the enhanced noisiness of the contact breaker, and also the fact that it may be more likely to fling, but this we are going to test. There is also the question of the timing of the make and break in relation to the distributor as altered by the quicker break cam, which demands further consideration. The fact of the somewhat improved result even with the scrubbing action when running without the distributor would rather suggest the use of the wipe distributor, but here again a further test will be made with scrubbing action and mushroom rotor. It will be remembered that the mushroom rotor with the standard make and break showed no improvement. It will also be remembered that the Delco-Remy use a wipe distributor. Three other results are being sent simultaneously, labelled 14, 41 and 42, which largely corroborate that the good performance of the points does not lie in the characteristic Quantities of the coil and condenser. | ||
