Lockheed's have also been trying automatic ratchet adjustment but told us that the adjustment must not be made too fine owing to having to allow for drum and shoe distortion and expansion. Even with a ratchet adjustment they put 45:1 as the maximum permissable overall-ratio.

One further piece of information we acquired is that for a 30 cwt. car the weight of all 5 operating cylinders and piping is 13 1/4 lbs.
