X264A HOTEL DE FRANCE, CHATEAUROUX, Indre. France. 9th November 1935. GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}/7/JAB. To. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From. G.W.H. B.56.BN.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} - BENTLEY. The failure of the crankshaft bearings was not found out until we dismantled the main bearings. We could not see or feel any sign of failure from observation. It was not possible to dismantle the crankshaft until we had got the Phantom finished, which caused the delay in finding out the above. I have sent A.B. Roberts to Derby with these bearings so that you can have first hand evidence. To fit new bearings to a crankshaft here is hardly a proposition which we could tackle, but the case could be taken to our Paris Depot where they have boring bars etc., G.W.Hancock G.W.H. | ||
