RE: HORNS ON BENTLEY CAR.

Referring to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}2/E.17.5.34, dealing particularly with the fitting of P.100 headlamps to the Bentley, with regard to the point raised in your second paragraph that the horns seem to be unnecessarily high the point you make in this criticism is correct, but the horns in question were fitted to Bn{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington}'s car only as the result of a mistake being made by Messrs. Lucas.

In ordering the horns the time was so short that we had to have them sent by passenger train. When they arrived the horns were of the wrong type, having the double riveting scheme which you criticise, whereas our order instructed horns with the riveting carried right up into the body itself, which would result in lowering the horn 1" as compared with the horns on the Bentley car.

Assuming that your memo gives us instructions to go ahead, with the exception of this one point, we are at once ordering the various parts, which will include the horns in the lower position.

In regard to the position of the horns laterally, they can, of course, be fixed anywhere on the crossmember, it is not necessary for them to be towards the centre of the car, ample room will be left under these for the various badges, unless a man happens to have a fad for collecting badges.
