To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}E.Br. (Struck through) Mr. BH. (Struck through) Mechanical Silence of Engines. Handwritten: 1160 I am very much interested and pleased to note the contents of Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}10/KW.10.5.35. It sounds extraordinarily good. I am a little concerned that it has all been done on a Bentley whereas it is of course much more important to silence the RR first. We can always deal with Bentley afterwards. However, I assume that no harm is really done because all the lessons learnt from the Bentley experiment have RR application. I am not quite sure whether you are going to show me the scheme when you show me the bigger bore engine on Friday but, if not, I hope you will be able to show it me when I am at Derby next week.
