Continuation Sheet No...2...... FW/JS{Mr Johnson's Secretary} CAMBRIDGE INSTRUMENT COMPANY, LIMITED. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd. obtained. The only way we can suggest of getting over the difficulty would be to drive the instrument from a pulley carried in independent bearings in line with the nose of the crankshaft, and couple this pulley to the nose with a short rigid shaft provided with two good Hooke's joints at each end. All we require for connecting the instrument is a pulley or piece of shaft on your crankshaft, which should preferably not exceed 6 inches in diameter - it could be as small as 2 inches in diameter. With regard to demonstration, you will appreciate that these instruments carry our full guarentee and it is not usual to fit them up and give demonstrations; if we did this the cost of the instrument would have to be considerably increased. We would, however, be prepared to do the same as we have done in similar cases with our Vibrograph, viz., supply an instrument to you against a firm order and permit you to return it to us any time within fourteen days on the payment of a fee of £15. 15s. 0d, plus carriage on the instrument both ways. This fee to cover the use of the instrument and the information obtained from it during the period you are using it, but it is understood that you must take full responsibility for any damage that may occur while it is in your possession. We could send an expert to Derby to set the instrument to work for you. We have a standard charge for an expert's services, viz. Three guineas per day, plus third class return railway fares from Cambridge. Alternatively you could inspect one of these instruments at our Works at Cambridge. Yours faithfully, for CAMBRIDGE INSTRUMENT CO. LTD. Dakeham Director. | ||
