COPY. ----- NORTH & SONS LTD. WHIPPENDELL ROAD, WATFORD. Ref:- CEK/HC.5. 7th Sep. 1925. Messrs Rolls-Royce Ltd. Derby. ------ Dear Sirs, For attention of Mr Whitehead. Following our conversation over the telephone this morning, we are sending by passenger train today a modified M.L.6 Magneto No. 88204. This machine is not in condition to be sent out on an engine, as the modifications have made the base plate imperfect and part of the pole shoes has been turned away. We have, as you will see, made a new bronze end plate with the housing for the sleeve considerably extended, and by fitting a wider ring on the end have stiffened the sleeve considerably. These modifications appear to us to have cut out the noise due to movement of the sleeve, and we trust will meet with your approval. In order that the modification may be further tested we have put in hand a small number of magnetos in which the necessary modifications to the base plates and polo shoes have been made, and hope to have these completed by the end of this week. We understand that Mr Whitehead will call on us on Monday morning, when he will be able to hear these machines running on test. We trust that they will meet with your approval, and will permanently eliminate the noise caused by the sleeve. Yours faithfully, For and on behalf of NORTH & SONS LTD. (Sgd) G.H.KIRBY. Director. | ||
