SS.{S. Smith} ENGINE MOUNTING. X7005

We send herewith blueprint of LeC.2650. shewing the front engine feet for the above.

Most of the remarks made in connection with the rear feet apply to the front. The foot forgings are of course interchangeable.

The chief difficulty encountered on this scheme is the close proximity of the road spring shock dampers to the engine foot.

We are told that the dampers cannot be moved forward any further but we have managed to raise it .2" and so get room underneath for our foot to spread.

It seems useless to mount the damper in the foot as it demands such a large hole. There is a ball bearing on the damper shaft which should be close to the chassis frame.

However we have shewn the base of the foot that rests on the lower flange of the frame spread out to a fair base, and this is the part of the foot that carries the frame torsion in direct load.

The depression in the rubber can be made smaller to stiffen up the connection between engine and frame.

To avoid cutting away too much of the inner rubber and also in view of the tube being square with the frame, we have used the scheme where the frame bearer is flanged in, screwed and brazed to the tube.

The drawing is perhaps a little optimistic as regards the length of this boss but the increased diameter of the tube at this point should ensure a good job.
