The following notes were taken during Mr. Wormald's and my visit to Mr. Royce:-

X.3473. FRONT ENGINE CASES.

As the slipper wheel has been reduced considerably in diameter, Mr. Royce instructed that the wheelcase should be cut down in size to suit this.

X.2748. PISTONS

Mr. Royce was emphatic that new cars should have aluminium pistons. They should have aluminium pistons even if they cause piston knocks. All means should be taken to make the pistons so that they so not knock. The chief thing being to allow more oil on the pistons. We have to test the following pistons:-

(1) The new type die cast pistons with a .6 shorter connecting rod.

(2) A similar design of piston made to suit the standard length of connecting rod.

(3) A similar type of piston but with rings much lower down. Mr. Elliott will supply a sketch of this.

X.3482. CRANKSHAFT.

It was suggested that the crankshaft of the webs should be rounded off similar to the aero engines.

X.3457. REAR AXLE.

Mr. Royce suggested that the drivers on the rear axle shafts should have find serrations. I pointed out that they weremuch finer now than they used to be but I could not tell him how many there were.
