X4261 HS. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} /NED. BY7/H. 19.3.25. 20 HP. ROAD SPRINGS. Referring to Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} 2/NJ. 18.3.25. we shall, when our tests are completed, make a report which will incorporate the points at which fracture occurs. We will also arrange that the springs themselves are put at Messrs Firths' disposal for examination. The above applies to the 36" springs designed by Mr. Stansfield as a comparison against our standard 36" springs which we have fitted up to the moment. With reference to the 38" springs supplied, I note the points referred to, but do not think they will affect the test. I consider that the springs will be sufficiently satisfactory for us to put them on bumping test at once, to give some early experience, and some of the springs may be fitted to a car if required. The slight modifications from Mr. Stansfield's requirements should not affect the issue. We are correcting our drawings and will order a further six sets of springs as corrected, with a request for Messrs Firths to obtain a somewhat better finish from Messrs Woodheads on the clip plate ends, or alternatively, to allow something on these particular plates to allow them to be cleaned up satisfactorily.
