This car has now covered 3,189 miles since fitting the new cylinder block and pistons with one "L" ring in the second groove. The oil consumption is now good and has been as follows:- During first 664 miles......... 590 m.p.g. During next 634 " ............ 596 " " " 869 " ............ 695 " " " 404 " ............ 1,292 " " " 618 " ............ 1,978 " The average oil consumption for the 3,189 miles was 785 m.p.g. and petrol consumption was 12.7 m.p.g. BRAKES. The front brakes were relined again at 29,024 miles, these linings had covered 11,202 miles and the OSF were worn down to the rivets. The previous front linings ran 7,800 miles. The front drums had covered 19,000 miles and were not scored or grooved but were wavy, and it was necessary to skim out 1/32" from each to obtain a flat surface suitable for bedding the new linings. The condition was good for the use they had had. The rear brakes have run 24,000 miles without re-lining. The rear toggles were let out after 21,000 miles. The braking is now good. Exhaust System. The new aluminised downpipes and front expansion box received from Derby were fitted at 28,854 miles. It was found that the pipe leading into the main silencer had broken away at the weld. This was re-welded. "C" Type Steering LOF F.61081 with malleable iron box. Fitted at 29,024 miles. This was practically free from joggles for 450 miles, when tests were carried out with the roll-rod disconnected on a very bad road. Joggles were then very bad. | ||
