1379 SECRET. S/W. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Bentley Publicity. Cx{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}4/KW25.1.39. Now that you have probably completed your interview with Mr.Pomeroy for Article No.2, we ought I suppose to turn our attention towards making arrangements for Article No.3. I do not know whether when you saw Mr.Tombs of the Autocar you hinted to him in any way that there would be a further article later if he cared to have it. If not it does not matter because we can approach them this end with the suggestion that there will be a further article, and the question is what the article shall be about. In your Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/R29.11.38 you put down No. 3 as the performance of the Bentley. I am assuming that No. 2.which Mr.Pomeroy has was concerning the durability of the product. When we come to the performance of the Bentley I am wondering whether you intend to include in it any results obtained on the Autostrada in Italy, or whether you were going to deal quite separately with this subject and let the Autostrada performance follow on later. I should imagine we should have enough evidence on the performance of the Bentley to produce an article of past history, and let the Autostrada then give us still more publicity at a later date. Of course I appreciate that some time must inevitably elapse between the date when you give the Autocar representative some data for such an article and when it actually appears in the Autocar, and by that time of course the Autostrada performances may have taken place but I don't suppose that would matter very much. Incidentally, while on the subject of the Autostrada, I wonder if you yet have any information about the car and anything it may have done of a preliminary nature with Sr,or when you expect to have some such information If therefore you will let me have a line from you on this subject generally I shall be able to make the necessary arrangements with the Autocar at the most convenient time, and shall arrange an appointment for you to meet their representative unless in this instance you will be able to give us all the necessary data in a memo which the Autocar can make (cont) | ||
