In reply to your letter - Wks/HRR/S/6504 - of the 9th inst. I have written to Derby asking the Works to send you drawings of the engine with the results that we obtain on test, and any instructions they consider necessary. We quite understand the experimental nature of your investigations and shall be very pleased to hear of the results you obtain, and any information that we find of advantage to us we shall be pleased to pay for. We know there are endless modifications that can be made with induction pipes, so shall hope to hear that you have been able to find a combination better than we found in the press and hurry of war conditions. This engine was produced after we had made the "Eagle(Aero Engine)", while we were working at the "Falcon(Aero Engine)". It was found useful in the smaller airships, and very suitable and reliable for pilots who were novices. We do not know that it was used to any great extent for any other purpose. We have one fitted in a chassis at Derby which has an R-R carburetter and quite another induction system, more suitable for a car, and shall be pleased to bring this over to shew you while you are engaged in some of the tests with the "Hawk(Aero Engine)" you have, if it would be interesting to you.
