July 22nd, 1943.

The Lodge Plugs Ltd.,
R U G B Y.

For the attention of Mr. Bernard Hopps.

Dear Sirs,

We have despatched under separate cover the two sparking plugs I promised you on my recent visit to your works.

The reason the resistors were turned down on the Meteor was that after a period of idling they became foul with consequent misfires on load.

Our engine people have agreed to carry out further tests with resistors in series with the plug. Possibly, by giving them a slightly hotter running plug than the standard RC{R. Childs} 76/2 we may be able to obtain good engine performances with the resistor in circuit, and at the same time obtain less erosion on the electrodes.

We will also carry out comparative tests between the RC{R. Childs} 76/2 and the 877/G.30. on a pilot tank.

Yours faithfully,
For Rolls-Royce Limited.

R.H. CHILD.
