MODIFICATION TO THE ENGINE MOUNTING ON B.E.2. TYPE BIPLANE. It is proposed to try a modification of the standard type of engine mounting on the B.E.2 type biplane. Instead of bolting the engine on to the top bearers of the fuselage, it is proposed to mount the engine on two steel tubes as shown in the attached sketch. This will have the advantage of doing away with the present aluminium bearers, and for this reason will cheapen the construction of the machine, and at the same time will enable the engine to be fitted or removed much more quickly. This alteration also enables a cowling to be fitted which will offer much less head resistance than the present type of cowling used on the B.E.2. This alteration will not affect the existing air screw, petrol tank, radiator or oil tank, and it will be possible to revert to the standard type of engine mounting if desired. F.H.R. | ||
