Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}8/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 30th July, 1937. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Spurrier, Esq., Jr.{Mr James Royce}, Leyland Motors Limited, Leyland, Lancs. Dear Spurrier, I have been having a somewhat acrimonious discussion with our Aluminium Foundry about the cost of our castings. Would it be possible for you to tell me the average number of man hours per pound of finished aluminium castings produced which you would consider to be reasonable on (a) a typical crankcase sand casting. (b) " " gearbox die casting. Needless to say any information you may be good enough to give me will be treated confidentially. Yours sincerely, P.S. We presume that where a casting is more or less a scaled up job, the number of man hours comes down. Naturally, our jobs are smaller ones, and, therefore, we should be most interested in the smallest types of castings produced. | ||
