Harcombe}15.12.38. regarding the sticking petrol gauges we are at present carrying out tests on different bushes. It would be of considerable help if you could obtain and send to me a sample of the petrol which has caused the trouble. Of course the fault may lie with the petrol used here or elsewhere and the time standing make the gum harden and cause the trouble. You could check up on the petrol by allowing same to evaporate away and judge by deposit if the petrol is gummy. It would only be worth while sending a sample if there was definite evidence of gum.
