F.J.H. 550 We agree with Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} view from Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} [Signature: RMy] MX{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}15/T9.12.36 [Crossed out distribution list:] BY Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} HHC RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} SFT{Mr Swift} RWO/MF BY3/W2.12.36 MARLES STEERING CAMS. I have tried the 25/30HP steering which has been specially built up in accordance with your instructions. I do not consider that the steering represents an acceptable proposition. (1) The slack in the central position is bound to be commented on unfavourably. (2) The two tight spots on either side of the central position affected the self-centering of the steering. We have had a number of steering cams recently which have been satisfactory, and I think it would be inadvisable in view of our Experimental and production experience to use cams similar to the one in this steering which I have tried.
