HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} X457 DAL/M28.4.31. P. 2. JELLYING. X.457. X.7380. With reference to the question of stiffening the side members vertically we have assumed that you would be experimenting with this without further instructions from us. we thought for instance that you would try tiebars under the present members made very stiff and rough-ly, possibly of sheet metal or large tubes, also that you would stiffen the front horns of the frame by bolting on plates. We presumed that this was so because we did not think you would expect us to send you a drawing of a new side member, say 9" deep, until you have proved whether the principle of a vertical stiffnes was an advantage. We believe you have also a P. 2. side channel .250" thick. If we are wrong in any of these assumptions would you please let us know and we will proceed to scheme a stiffer side channel.
