RE. 40/50 SUBFRAME - 'W' SERIES. X.8380

As a result of having fitted a subframe body to a chassis we have found it necessary to go over our designs and make some slight alterations before we can feel that they are fit for production, should the experiments be satisfactory.

We send herewith N.sch. 2001., shewing the front end of the subframe, the brake lever quadrant, and the floorboards. The following features will be noticed :-

(1) We do not require a sheet metal face to the body scuttle.

(2) The front cross member is moved forward 1 1/4", and the brake quadrant is increased in radius by 3/4". This leaves us a reasonable clearance at this point. Our experience on fitting the subframe is that we cannot work to the fine clearances which we had previously allowed for.

(3) The floorboards lying between the 2 dash brackets and extending to the 1st. body cross member are to be part of the chassis. We have shewn you the revised type of dash brackets for supporting them. The pedal gap plate etc. will be like 'W' series (EAC.2.) except where we indicate that it is different.

(4) The small auxiliary floorboard bracket supporting the small piece of sloping footboard at either side we have reduced in thickness to .064 as this has now little work to do.

(5) Due to the raised floor the cutout operating lever needs special treatment and we have indicated how this should be dealt with. Will Derby please arrange all future chassis supplied for subframe work to have footboards and dash brackets that we herewith indicate.

(6) We have slightly modified the front of the subframe side channel, giving greater clearance between it and the main frame at its extreme forward end, and have caused its flanges to die away before the end so that this clearance can be obtained.

All our drawings of subframe work are shewn for 'W' series. Any 'V' series cars for subframe work will need a little adaptation of these designs which we leave for Derby to settle.
