To RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}

Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rml/ME.2.2.31.

Will you please make a set of the new rib type drums in cast iron. We suggest that these might be done in two ways:

(1) The whole drum made in one casting.

(2) The existing steel centre retained and the rib portion of the drum cast incast iron.

With reference to the type of cast iron to be used, obviously it is important what material is used, and we should like you to get 'Hl' to recommend a particular composition giving the maximum durability and toughness.
