JH/KES 14th October, 1938. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} C. Hall, Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Mr. Hall, A.{Mr Adams} C. 9. I have now received a report from Bristol regarding the trial two bushes which we submitted to them in the early stages and I have also, at the same time, received from them a complete report on all the aluminium tin bearings which you or H.D.A. may have sent them from time to time, and every trial they have had previous to these two A.C.9. have been unsatisfactory. The position regarding these A.C.9. bushes is as follows:- Aluminium Tin bearing supplied by Wellworthy. duration of test 60 hours. Condition of bush after test - both bearing surfaces in very good condition, bore almost unmarked, while outer edges exhibited only extremely light running scores. Particularly uniform distribution of load was a prominent feature. Slight wear had occurred on the front face. Conclusion - very promising. Second test. duration 40 hours. Condition after test - bush in very good condition being similar in appearance to above.
