To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} E/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/MN.14.1.36. Copy to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Re 33 Gallon Petrol Tank-Phantom III. With reference to our E/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}5/MN.8.1.36 and the last paragraph, we are instructed by E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} to ask you to try the effect of damping the petrol tank as therein suggested that is by fitting a thin steel strap about 1 1/4" wide around the petrol tank approximately mid-way between the vertical sections of the tank, that is to say where the tank shell is unsupported by either and plates or the baffles. We suggest that the straps by fitted with lamp wick riveted on, and that the tension be put on the strap by means of a set screw going through two trunions held in loops in the sheet like the old type dynamo straps. If this experiment proves successful we will supply a design for production. | ||
