YOUR REF. _______ 18th October, 1929. Messrs. Rolls Royce Limited, DERBY. - For the attention of Mr. Rowbotham - Dear Sirs, We confirm our conversation yesterday with Mr. Rowbotham, and have pleasure in informing you that your two steel clutch plates with linings moulded on will be sent from here this afternoon; they should reach you by first post on Monday next for certain. We have used two types of material - one with and the other without brass wire. It will be easy to identify them, but to make the matter quite clear the lining with wire is marked VDK.21 and the non-metallic lining VDK.3. As we advised some time back, the lined plates are slightly lighter in weight than the original steel plate, the difference being about 93 grammes. Should you find it necessary to slit through the lining and plate, you will find we have marked each plate with radial lines in eight places. If cuts are made through these lines it will be better than slitting through at any other part. We regret the delay in getting the plates ready, but as the writer explained, we had to get a special moulding die made, and that is the only reason why the job was not completed very much sooner. We shall be much obliged if you will let us know as soon as you can, how the arrangement works out after you have tested the plates. Yours faithfully, FERODO LIMITED, [Signature] Chief Engineer. | ||
