3. BRAKE SQUEALING.

The brake squealing is worse than ever, and last week end the noise was so bad that I was really ashamed to go through any Town, as if I had to put the brakes on, or pull up for a stop light, one caused an embarrassing amount of attention. Surely this should not be present on this class of car, and must be dealt with?

4. OTHER CHANGES ON THE CAR SINCE ITS RETURN TO ME.

(a) Petrol consumption, 16-17 m.p.g., as compared with 18-19 m.p.g. previously. I do not want to make a great point of this. It is correct, and I was awfully pleased with the consumption ~~previously~~.

(b) Dynamo will not keep battery fully charged.

Battery will not start the engine from cold.

This is most disappointing to me, because I take the most meticulous care of my battery, and have since the day the car was delivered. It is examined every week, and always kept full of distilled water, and regularly charged when the car is not in use.

(c) The setting of the petrol pump is different, and it keeps ticking when the engine is idling.

Altogether I am very disappointed with the modifications, and the car is far from satisfactory.

If I may be allowed to say so, I submit that it is impossible to hope that a palliative will deal with an organic trouble, and that the present cure is probably worse than the disease.

I have already had to hire a car for more than a fortnight, while my car was up with you, but I do not feel it is in a fit state to go on driving indefinitely, as some very serious damage may accrue.

I shall await with interest your comments.

Kind regards,

Yours sincerely,

A.{Mr Adams} H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} R.{Sir Henry Royce} Fedden.
