Y531/ To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}12/28.9.30. X.523 X.5310 X.7310 SILENT THIRD GEAR ETC. Referring to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/MJ2.9.30, you will have received a copy of R1/M.9.30. I should be glad if you could tell me what line you think R is really pursuing at the present time. Both PN.{Mr Northey} and I have read this memo. carefully but we have failed to elicit this information. We rather fear that he seems to have gone back to the epicyclic gear because he seems to say some thing definitely to the detriment of the various other schemes, but I still feel, and have felt for months, that the epicyclic gear is a very long way off and that it will be absolutely necessary for us to have some thing before that can possibly be brought to perfection.
