-2- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Smth.10/AP.27.1.37. We see no reason why this particular piece should not be made of cheaper alloy, such as that at £74 per ton mentioned in our previous memo. This would give us a further nett saving of 12/6. per car, after allowing for the 1d./lb. royalty we are granted on R.R. alloys. It thus appears that our original estimates were probably not far from the truth and that considerable savings can be gained by die casting. With regard to the crankcase bottom half casting, we propose to introduce a ribbed design. This feature will make the piece a still more attractive proposition for die casting.
