To: Wellworthy Piston Rings Ltd. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}1/JH.29.4.39. Aluminium tin bearings. With reference to the information required by Chrysler Corp. of U.S.A. Their queries can be tabulated as follows :- (1) Heat Conductivity. - 42 CGS units up to 170°C. (3% better than RR.50). (2) Yield Point. (Affected by heat treatment) (our 24 hour treatment important). Compressive - 10.8 tons) Tensile - 10.5 tons) (3) Ultimate Strength. Compressive - 16 tons Tensile ± 14.5 tons (4) Hardness. 60 - 9) Brinell. (5) Can it be finished by broaching? Yes. (6) Has it been combined with any other material such as steel back? We do not recommend steel back (bad adhesion on early days with the Bentley), and we do not think it necessary. Further we have run thin shell bearings without any trouble down to .062" thick. (7) Clearances (working). (a) Connecting rod bearings. Minimum .001/inch diameter. Maximum .0013/inch diameter. | ||
