Confirming our telephonic conversation with Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wyn., we sent you yesterday per lorry the nearside axle driving shaft from the above car. This car had done approximately 52,000 miles when, according to our information, the shaft sheared without any provocation. It has been suggested by MK.{R. E. B. Meade-King}, who saw the car, that the synchromesh mechanism had seized up solid in the gearbox, and that [redacted] caused the breakage. We can confirm, however, that there was nothing whatever found in the gearbox which could have aggravated this breakage, but we are of the opinion that the car has most likely been subjected to very heavy usage. C. is anxious to have a report on this shaft, and we shall be glad of your comments in due course. Bk.{A. Birkett - Commercial Manager} | ||
