20 MPG should not be returned. Whyman's buxton run, in which he returns by Bakewell, seems to be more arduous, and the consumption might be expected to fall to around 18 MPG.

Top speed is not quite 2 MPH down and the difference in performance may be guessed from the fact that the 10-60 figure is only 1/2 sec worse than when you tried the car on friday.

Anticipating that you will want to try the car before I return, I should also like to anticipate any possible criticism. The latter will, if at all, be on the grounds of the 'feel' of the car. Had I had one more day on the job I am certain you would have been unable to pick out the difference between this and the previous carburettor. Minor mods to the carburettors could be effected without jeopardising consumption, and it is so nearly right that here if ever is the case where ignition should help us.
