MEM: FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} C. to Cd. WOH. PL. C. to MS. ST.{Capt. P. R. Strong} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} TELEGRAPED X4027 LA.{L. A. Archer}, N.V., and I decided that we ought to have not less than 12" shorter propeller tube - i.e. 45" between centres, and, considering it will be altering the chassis less, IA. is proceeding with a design on the lines of Lancia - i.e. separate bearing with dust cover over shaft to reduce the possibility of road dust getting into the outboard bearing, which seems very conveniently carried by the tubular crossmember, which will then go straight across the chassis.
