First impressions and notes following an inspection of the 6 EX chassis.

Mr. Hives brought 6 EX. to Wittering at the time of visit of WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} PN.{Mr Northey} and C. The following points were noted:- (1) BONNET AND RADIATOR. X.3726 The bonnet and radiator raised; looked well, and with present fashion in bodies will add to appearance. (2) ENGINE. The engine had an improved appearance, also it ran nicely both slow and fast, and it will improve with running-in, and be excellent. (3) PISTONS. X.3751a The extra piston rings are an undoubted improvement and well worth the extra cost; they were princiapilly put in to prevent carbon deposit on the pistons, but have other advantages of extra gas tightness benefitting the slow running in steadiness and power. (4) COIL. X.3713c- The coil had a fixing at the base as originally arranged and looked very neat. (5) INSTRUMENT BOARD. X.1362 X.3526v X.3565 X4163 The instrument board can now be relieved of two fittings by the R.R. combined switchboard, and there being no need of thermometer with the thermostat. I am sending a drawing that shews how we ought to re-arrange the instruments. X4537 In 6 EX. the windscreen and instrument board are a few inches too near the driver. The drawing mentioned will shew what we think the best dimensions and position for "D" steering, partly arranged during PN{Mr Northey}'s last visit. The knees of a very tall man, say, Mr. Northey, should not go under the board. The further the board is back in "D" steering the higher it should be from the floor. The top of the (Contd.) | ||
