the major improvements as regards commutation, and owing to the fact that EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} has frequently brought up the question of noise, not being entirely satisfied in this direction, we had paid some attention to this particular feature.

We can also try a machine with a larger air gap. The difficulty with experiments on noise is the elusive nature of this phenomenon, so that unless experiments are carried out in multiple it is extremely difficult to arrive at any definite conclusions, because there are great variations from one machine to another with no clear cause.

We regret that you should think the progress of this dynamo work slow. Our own impression is that we have recently secured some definite improvements. However, we shall shortly now have in working order a further experimental dynamo bench test, making three in all, if we count the direct coupled continuous (or intermittent) running test.
