X5820 S/W. To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Copy to DJ. SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} One of our owners, Mr. Gerald Mere, living in London, has for many months been struggling to obtain from us a 20 H.P. Rolls-Royce fitted with tyres not smaller than 6". He likes our car in many respects, but he drives a great deal on the Continent, and he refuses to buy another Twenty from us for driving on the bad roads found there if it is to have a smaller tyre section than that stated. I have recently been in touch with him again, hoping to get his order for a car now that we are in a position to promise him lower pressure tyres, i.e. 5 1/4" but he remains obdurate, and states that unless and until we let him have 6" tyres, he will not do anything further. I have no information as to what reasons we may have in refusing to supply 6" tyres with our 20 H.P. car, especially now that hydraulic shock absorbers are being fitted in front. The matter is somewhat urgent, as we do not wish to alienate Mr. Mere, and if we felt justified, from all sound points of view, in making an exception in his case, without frightening him to death by stating that we refused to take any responsibility, we could at any time in the near future obtain his order.
