For the attention of A.{Mr Adams} F.{Mr Friese} Martindale Esq.

Dear Sirs,

In reply to your letter of the 20th of August, and further to our letter of the 24th of June, regarding an experimental pair of two leading shoe brakes.

We have pleasure in enclosing herewith print No.GB.20472/3, which shows our proposed 12" x 2¼" brake assembly. You will note that we have retained the same type of anchor plate as at present used by you, but unfortunately we have been unable to accommodate the existing part, as it is not wide enough to take our standard adjuster unit.

Our drawing shows the anchor plate with ¼" off-set. This is necessary in order to accommodate our existing operating and adjusting units, and at the same time both of your drum designs.

We should very much like to be able to make a flat plate instead of an off-set plate, particularly on the experimental set, and this could be done either by moving the flange ¼" towards the centre of the axle, or by using the cast iron brake drums slightly modified, in order to allow the brake to be moved ¼" nearer the hub. We shall be glad to have your comments on either of these suggestions.

We have been able to use your existing dust cover and oil catchers (these parts are indicated in red on the print). We shall be glad if you will arrange to let us have two sets of these items.
