S/W To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Db.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions} Copy to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Db{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}21/JL.18.3.35. We attach details of a patent in connection with adjustable tappets submitted to us by a Mr. A.{Mr Adams} B. Buckley, who is a Consulting Engineer of Victoria Street, Westminster. In his letter he suggests that, in addition to the information given in the description and blueprint, we should consider the alternative of using a weaker inner spring washer for the exhaust valves than indicated and utilise its resilience to delay the opening of the exhaust valve and to cause it subsequently to open more quickly than is possible with the rigid type of valve assembly now in common use. This should mean an increase of mean effective pressure which under certain circumstances should be appreciable. We should be glad to hear whether you are interested. Attachments:- Description.
